Margate boss Jay Saunders brings in Jamie Coyle to assist

Monday 29th June 2020

MARGATE manager Jay Saunders has appointed Jamie Coyle as his assistant manager, replacing Mike Sandmann.

Coyle will be a familiar face to Margate fans following football across the county, having enjoyed a successful playing career across Kent, including spells at Dartford, Welling United and most recently at Hythe Town last season.

The 37-year-old centre-back will also register as a player for the Isthmian League Premier Division side.

Alongside this, Coyle brings plenty of coaching experience to Hartsdown Park. A UEFA A License coach and FA Tutor, Coyle has managed two National League South clubs in Welling United and Dartford.

Saunders moved quickly to add his former player and coach to his backroom team.

“I’m really pleased to welcome Jamie to the club as my assistant. Jamie and I have known each other for a long time and worked with each other when he was my player and coach at Maidstone United,” Saunders told Margate’s website.

“He knows how I like to do things and how things should be done. We’re both looking forward to the challenge of next season. It was especially important to me to get the right person in to follow after Mike Sandmann and I believe with Jamie we’ve got a great addition. Jamie’s experience, leadership and drive will be extremely valuable to me and the club as whole.

“I’m pleased to be able to give our supporters this piece of good news. Plenty of phone calls and conversations have been taking place over the past few weeks and to get Jamie on board is the first in a number of positive strides I hope to take.”
