Thursday 18th June 2020

MARGATE manager Jay Saunders has confirmed the departure of his assistant manager Mike Sandmann.

Due to a change in his commitments, it has been mutually agreed that Sandmann leaves Hartsdown Park after three and a half years at the club.

“Mike has been a fantastic colleague and become a good friend since I returned to the club as manager,” Saunders told the Margate website.

“I want to place on record my personal thanks to him for all his efforts and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Margate’s vice-chairman Ricky Owen added: “Mike has been an exceptional professional throughout his time at Margate. Always committed, always supportive, his conduct has been first-class, both on and off the pitch. The board would like to thank Mike for everything and like Jay, wish him all the best."

Having been a part of the coaching set-up at The Gate since 2017, Sandmann thanked those involved with making his time at the Isthmian League Premier Division club an enjoyable one.

He said: “I’ve had a great time working for Margate and want to thank all the players and staff I’ve worked with during my time.

“I’d like to extend that thanks to the supporters who have been brilliant over the years.

“The club has some exciting times ahead with plans around the ground development and I wish Jay and everyone the best moving forward.”
