Kent County League campaign declared null and void

Wednesday 17th March 2021

Kent County League member clubs have voted to decide that the 2021-21 season is to be declared null and void.

Forty three of the county’s amateur football teams voted to scrap the campaign at a meeting that was attended by 120 people online this evening.

Eighty-four clubs were entitled to vote, 39 voted against scrapping the season, while there were two votes not recorded.

However, Premier Division side Peckham Town, holders of the London Senior Trophy following their penalty shoot-out success over AFC Cubo on 28 August 2020, can still play this season’s Second Round tie against Southern Counties East Football League First Division side Croydon as the London FA are completing their cup competitions.

“Clubs still involved in the London Senior Trophy and London Junior Cup can continue to play in both – but all fixtures and match confirmations must be agreed direct with the London FA - the only county in the country who are continuing with county competitions,” said Brian Smith.

The Kent County League fixture secretary added: “No cup competitions will be arranged by the Kent County League.  However, if teams arrange friendlies then support will be given regarding the appointment of referees.”

It was confirmed that the Kent County League 2021-22 campaign will kick-off on Saturday 14 August 2021.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Southern Counties East Football League and the Kent County Football League met remotely at the weekend and have announced that a working partnership is being finalised that will strengthen the pathway for all clubs within Kent and the South East.

“This ongoing working partnership will help ensure that all clubs can reach their full potential within the non-league pyramid system moving forward,” said a joint League statement.

“The two Leagues look forward to working in partnership with further dialogue that will only improve opportunities for all the member clubs in both Leagues.”
