Sammy Moore quits Hythe Town after only six games in charge at Reachfields Stadium

HYTHE TOWN begin the search for a new manager after announcing that Sammy Moore has resigned after the first league game of the new season.

The 36-year-old was announced as Steven Watt’s successor on 16 April and was in charge of the Cannons for only six games.

Hythe Town finished last season with a 2-0 defeat away to Broadbridge Heath, a 4-0 defeat at champions Cray Valley and a 1-1 draw at home to Lancing.

The Cannons finished in a disappointing thirteenth-place in the Isthmian League South East Division table, having picked up 44 points (12 wins, eight draws and 18 defeats) from their 38 games.

Hythe Town kicked off this campaign with a 2-2 draw away to Abbey Rangers in The FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round but lost at home to the ninth-tier club at Reachfields Stadium, losing 3-2 in the replay.

However, Moore’s men bounced back by beating Keith McMahon’s Phoenix Sports 2-1 on the opening day of the new league season yesterday and begin the search for a replacement with the club in sixth-place in the table.

“Hythe Town FC can confirm Sammy Moore has resigned as first-team manager with immediate effect,” said a club statement.

“The process of appointing a new manager to take the club forward is now underway.

“The club would like to place on record their thanks to Sammy and Darren Beale for all of their hard work since taking over last season.

“The football club will make no further comment.”

Hythe Town have time to find a replacement as their next game isn’t until Saturday 24 August, a trip to reprieved Beckenham Town.

Darren Anslow’s side came away from newly-promoted side Eastbourne Town with a 3-1 win yesterday.

Sittingbourne, Beckenham Town, newly-promoted side Deal Town, Sevenoaks Town and Herne Bay are all in the top-five after 90 minutes of league football.

Moore lasted only 52 games when he was in charge of Faversham Town, leaving the Salters Lane outfit when the club were top of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table in January 2024.
