Hythe Town appoint Sammy Moore as their new manager
HYTHE TOWN chairman Gary Johnson has appointed Sammy Moore as their new manager last night.
Moore, 36, who lives locally in Hawkinge, has previously managed Leatherhead, Concord Rangers, Hemel Hempstead Town, Potters Bar Town and Faversham Town.
The Lilywhites lost their Isthmian League South East Division status last season, before Moore was replaced by Tommy Warrilow, who has since guided the Salters Lane outfit to second-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table.
Moore departed Faversham Town in January 2024 after only 52 games in charge, despite sitting at the summit of the ninth-tier division at the time.
“The club are delighted to announce the appointment of local non-league manager Sammy Moore as the successor to fans’ favourite Steve Watt,” said chairman Mr Johnson.
“Sammy brings experience, enthusiasm and charisma as well as living a stones throw from Reachfields.
“His management team will include his long-time friend and UEFA B coach Darren Beale with the possibility of a further new face to be confirmed.
“The first challenge is to complete the season with a depleted squad suffering from injuries and availability issues.
“He and his management team will then begin the process of building and shaping a new squad for the 2024-25 season, which kicks off on Saturday 10 August.
“The club had a wealth of applications from the very experienced non-league scene, right through to former Premier League players, oh and of course the funny ones too.
“Having shortlisted three exciting candidates, the board agreed unanimously on the appointment of Sammy Moore and look forward to renewed vigour.
“I’m sure you will offer Sammy and his management team a very warm welcome.”
The Cannons have slipped down to thirteenth-place in the Isthmian League South East Division table, having picked up 43 points (12 wins, seven draws and 16 defeats) and complete their season with games against Broadbridge Heath (away, Saturday), Cray Valley (home, Tuesday 23 April) and Lancing (home, Saturday 27 April).
The club announced the departure of Steven Watt on 7 April, and the Cannons have lost their last seven games, their last three under caretaker managers Frannie Collin and Alex Flisher.
