Omar Bugiel leaves Bromley to sign for Sutton United: I've made some great memories in 18 months at Hayes Lane
BROMLEY manager Neil Smith has confirmed the departure of striker Omar Bugiel.
The 25-year-old Lebanese international originally signed for the Ravens on loan from Forest Green Rovers in January 2018, before signing for the Hayes Lane outfit on a two-year contract in July 2018.
Bugiel made 48 National League appearances during his time at the club, scoring 10 goals and his most memorable was Bromley’s goal in The FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in May 2018.
Bugiel could have gone down in folklore but he skied a potential winning penalty high over the crossbar and Brackley Town went on to win 5-4 on penalties after the game finished all-square at 1-1 after extra time.
Bugiel scored only six goals for the Ravens last season as he struggled to get over his Wembley penalty-miss.
The club said: “The club would like to wish Omar all the very best going forward and thank him for his efforts during his time at Hayes Lane.”
Bugiel said on Twitter: “Thank you for the last 18 months. I’ve made some great memories from Hayes Lane all the way up to Wembley.
“The support from the fans has been amazing and I can’t thank you enough. I wish the team all the best in the future.”
Bugiel has signed for Bromley's bitter-rivals Sutton United.
Smith has confirmed the arrival of 32-year-old former Barnet goalkeeper Mark Cousins.
Cousins was halfway through a two-year contract at The Hive and comes to Bromley for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Cousins spent his youth with Fulham and Colchester United, before turning professional with the latter and spending nine years with the Essex outfit, also enjoying loan spells at Whitton United, Staines Town, Enfield Town and Yeading.
In June 2014, Cousins made the move to then League Two outfit Dagenham & Redbridge and spent four years with the club, making a total of 126 appearances in all competitions.
At the end of the 2017-18 season, Cousins followed former manager John Still to Barnet, where he spent the entire 2018-19 season, playing a key part in the Bees’ impressive FA Cup run, making a total of 53 appearances in all competitions with 20 clean sheets along the way.
Cousins told www.bromleyfc.tv: “I’m really pleased to be joining Bromley, a club that seems to be going in the right direction.
“I’m very much looking forward to working with Neil and of course Jim Stannard, who I worked with at Dagenham.”
Smith added: “Mark comes with experience, he’s played at this level for a while now. I needed to freshen things up at the back and get a little more experience in and hopefully we can keep more clean sheets next season.”
