League leaders Glebe part company with longest serving managers Craig Nelson and Danny Oakins after 68 games in charge at Foxbury Avenue
GLEBE begin the search for a new management team after announcing that joint-managers Craig Nelson and Danny Oakins have left the club with four league games remaining.
The Chislehurst-based outfit are sitting at the summit of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 73 points from 36 games.
However, The Foxes lost the top-of-the-table clash at Deal Town 4-2 on Saturday and the pair failed to take part in the post-match press conference and sent out their analyst to answer the questions.
Steve King’s Deal Town will leapfrog over Glebe at the top of the table tonight should they claim a home victory over basement side Welling Town, who have picked up 17 points from 32 games and are two points adrift of Rusthall, who came away from fourth-placed Faversham Town with a 2-2 draw at the weekend.
Deal Town (70 points) will have six games in hand on the Foxes at the final whistle tonight and are favourites to claim promotion to the Isthmian League South East Division.
“We are looking forward to a strong finish to the season as we strive to achieve our long-term aim of promotion from the Southern Counties East Football League,” said a club statement.
“Unfortunately, we will now have to plan accordingly without Craig and Danny in charge.
“We would like to thank Craig and Danny for their tenure at the club and all the hard work they have put into the team.
“Our focus now turns to our upcoming fixtures and continuing our impressive campaign.
“We will make an announcement in due course regarding the first-team manager position.”
Nelson and Oakins took over the helm in November 2022, replacing Luke Rooney and guided Glebe to a seventh-placed finish last season.
The pair are the longest serving managers at the club, lasting 68 games, where they claimed 34 wins, 16 draws and 18 defeats in League and Cup (not including the pre-season Respect Trophy, which they won with a 1-0 victory over First Division side Larkfield & New Hythe).
Chairman Rocky McMillan begins the season for a new management team ahead of their next game. The Foxes' defeat on the Kent coast at the weekend was their first league defeat since losing 3-2 at Holmesdale on 23 December 2023 after going on a 14 match unbeaten run.
Sammy Moore was axed by Faversham Town on Tuesday 2 January, with the club also sitting at the top of the ninth-tier division at the time.
Glebe return to action on Easter Monday, 1 April, when Chipie Sian’s Pubjab United visit Foxbury Avenue.
