Youngsters ready to make their mark, says Binks
CHATHAM TOWN boss Steve Binks is confident that his youngsters will make their mark in the Ryman League Division One North this season, writes Stephen McCartney.
Binks today unveiled that he has signed left-sided player Chris Shakalli, 19.
“Chris has a good pedigree having spent six years at the Millwall academy, two years at Ebbsfleet United and one year with Ashford Town’s reserves,” Binks told www.chathamtownfc.net.
“He comes with a strong recommendation and has really impressed in pre-season training with his fitness and technique.”
Three other players from last season, meanwhile, have also re-signed for the Maidstone Road club.
And Binks said: “Matt Rowe and Nathan Ballin who featured at times in the first team and Nick Minshull who would have made his first team debut at the end of last season but for an injury.”
Binks has also registered two sixteen-year-olds in Michael Scott and Ryan Restell.
He said: “Michael made an impressive debut coming on as a substitute towards the end of last season against Tooting & Mitcham, in a game which we were desperately unlucky not to have won and Ryan is a very exciting wide player come striker who is very ambitious to progress to the first team and is definitely one for the future.
“I fully expect both these youngsters to make their mark on the first team squad this season. We now have a very large squad with excellent strength in depth and very strong competition for places.”
