Work starts on new Stones Stadium in January

Wednesday 25th October 2006
Work on Maidstone United Football Club's new stadium is expected to start early in the New Year - with Paul Bowden-Brown set to go it alone.

Club chairman Mr Bowden-Brown gave potential partners until today to confirm their interest.

But he told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk : "Unfortunately, although meetings with prospect investors are still ongoing and no one has actually said no yet, there have been no concrete offers of extra financial help to date."

"I have decided that I will proceed under my own steam and raise the necessary funding to begin the first phase of the development.

"There are one or two legal issues that need my immediate attention, but with all things being equal I would expect to begin on the infrastructure of the new stadium in the third week in January 2007."

It has been Mr Bowden-Brown's ambition since he took over the club to see it playing back in the town.

He added: "We have always had a dream at Maidstone United that one day we would be able to return the club to its rightful home in the county town.

“We had hoped that with the support of the businesses and individuals in the town that we could quickly turn that dream into a reality."

If you wish to make a contribution to the current appeal the club are running to help raise money to help with the financing of the first phase visit www.maidstoneunited.co.uk and give whatever you can.
