Woodstock Sports fold due to lack of funding for next season

Monday 20th April 2015

WOODSTOCK SPORTS have confirmed today that they will be folding at the end of the season.

The rural Sittingbourne based club issued a statement on their official club website and confirmed that Saturday’s home game against Sevenoaks Town will be their last.

“It is with great regret and sadness to announce that Woodstock Sports Football Club will fold at the end of the 2014-15 season,” said the statement.

“Quite simply, we do not have a sustainable business plan and the funding is simply not there for another season.

“This breaks our hearts as we have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to build the foundations of the club over the past few years and our progression is testament to the monumental time and effort the committee, especially Colin Page, has put into the club on a daily basis.

“This Saturday we host Sevenoaks Town at Woodstock Park. We hope to see many old and new faces as this Saturday we also face the ‘Final Curtain.”

Woodstock manager Lee Hockey has guided the club to tenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table with 14 wins and six draws from their 37 league outings.

Ninth-placed Sevenoaks Town are managed by Micky Collins, who played Dartford’s final game four games into the Southern League season in 1992, before the club were forced to withdraw from the League over the club’s crippling financial crisis.

Collins also played in Dartford’s first game in the Kent League when the club started again the following season.
