Wings release Vines

Wednesday 20th September 2006

After Welling United’s 1-0 victory over Sutton United at Park View Road last weekend, the Wings travel to 19th placed Basingstoke Town on Saturday.

Welling should have a full squad to choose from for the trip to Hampshire.

Martin Carthy has been on holiday all this week and may be available for selection; the holiday was already arranged before he joined for the club.

Andrew Sam and Che Stadhart are both close to returning and may make the squad for Saturday. Welling also this week released former Cray Wanderers’ and Bromley defender Joe Vines.

The Wings are on a three game unbeaten run and Boss Adrian Pennock has seen improved results of late.

He told www.wellingunited.com:  "We weren’t happy with the goals we were conceding and we told them what we wanted. The boys have been working very hard in training. All credit to them, as it seems to be getting better with two clean sheets on the spin.

“With a win and a clean sheet against Sutton, it was great for me. We had to change things around for the game and I thought Steve Perkins did well with Danny Kedwell upfront."

Welling travel to Basingstoke Town this Saturday, a side that picked up their first victory of the season last weekend.

However, last seasons encounter at the Camrose Ground will be remembered for the fog and not the football!

Pennock added: "It’s a difficult place to go, we went there last year and gave them two sloppy goals early on. With all the fog we pulled the game back to 2-2.

“The boys are confident, there is good spirit in the changing rooms so we have to keep this roll going."
