Welling United could lose star striker Danny Kedwell inside the next fortnight with Football League clubs starting to circle.

New Brentford manager Leroy Resenior has already spent a week looking at the former Herne Bay striker and more trials could follow if a move to Griffin Park doesn’t materialise.

The Nationwide Conference South club are keen to keep hold of Kedwell and will demand a transfer fee if he is to depart.

Two unnamed Nationwide Conference clubs are also in the hunt and Wings manager Adrian Pennock will listen to offers.

He told the Non-League Paper: “We’ve had nothing concrete yet, but he’s been at Brentford and the feedback we’ve received is very impressive.

“There are a few other League clubs are also interested and I’ve had some calls from Conference managers, so the boy’s in demand.

“But Danny’s got a good head on his shoulders and he’ll be patient. We’re not going to stand in the boy’s way but we will require a transfer fee. We have a figure n mind, so we’re going to wait and see what happens.”

Kedwell’s replacement may already have been found. Pennock put 20 trialists through their paces yesterday in a warm-up match at Kent League side Beckenham Town.

Any successful players could play for the first team at Herne Bay, who drew Fleet Town 2-2 in their opening friendly at the weekend, on Monday night.

“It’s a match for trialists only and we’ll see what’s on offer,” Pennock revealed. “We’ve got one or two French lads with us, so you never know what you’ll find.”

Meanwhile, it was reported that striker Paul “Charlie” Vines played for the Wings during their 1-0 defeat to his former side, Beckenham Town yesterday.

Vines, who scored a hat-full of goals to help Beckenham Town finish as runners up to Maidstone United in the Kent League last season, could team up with his brother Joe, whose signed for the Wings from Bromley.

Danny Vella, coming back from injury, scored the only goal of the game for Becks, and it’s alleged that all their star players from last season have left the club.
