Whitstable prepared for new campaign, says Seager

Thursday 14th August 2008

WHITSTABLE TOWN manager Marc Seager says his side are much better prepared for their second campaign as a Ryman League Division One South club.

Seager’s men are expected to perform well on the opening day of the new season in their game at Chipstead, before welcoming Burgess Hill Town to Belmont Road next Tuesday night.

Seager, speaking to www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk, is pleased with how things went during pre-season and that they’re ready for their new campaign.

He said: “I am hoping we are better prepared this year in all areas for football in the Ryman League than we were last, that’s for sure.

“In our first season we finished fourteenth, which given that we were in the bottom two around February was about the right position.”

Seager wants to keep things tight at the back this season, having leaked far too many goals in their first season as a newly promoted side.

“We leaked far too many goals and whilst we will still play attacking football we will be a harder side to breakdown this year than we were last,” he said.

“I know full well that to concede 84 goals as we did last year is far, far too many.

“I have strengthened certain areas in the side and although the pre-season has been a tough one, playing three times a week with almost every game against sides in leagues above us, but I believe it will stand us in good stead in the weeks and months to come.

“If we can take the end of last season’s form into this then I am very optimistic that we can improve on last year’s performance, just how far can we go, well ask me again around the end of the year. I can tell you this much my staff and the players will be giving it one hundred per cent from the first game of the season to the last.”
