Whitstable gunning for reserve team glory

IAN HOSSICK believes Whitstable Town will contest the Kent Intermediate Cup final this season.

Hossick takes his reserve side to the Betterview Longmead Stadium to play Tonbridge Angels on Saturday (3pm) aiming to make it through to the final against Cray Wanderers or Dartford.

“I really fancy us to go all the way,” reserve team manager Hossick told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“We lost a bit of momentum in November and December but we are getting back to how we can play these last few weeks.

“Over the Christmas period we had no games but the lads were running with me on a Monday night then training hard during the week and when we started playing league games again we were right up to speed.”

Assistant manager Peter Budge added: “I think these young lads deserve to be in a final, they have worked so hard, even though the results have not always gone our way they always give us 100%.
“I fully expect us to compete for the whole 90 minutes on Saturday and hopefully at the end of it we will be in the final, that will cap off our season.”

Hossick, meanwhile, reminded everyone how challenging it is to run a reserve side.

“It’s never easy if a reserve side is run correctly,” he said. “It means we have to chop and change to accommodate players on their way back from injury or suspension and cope with losing our emerging talent to the first team.

“But that’s a part of our job and any success for the first team is a reflection on us doing our job in the right way with the reserves.”
