We want to win as many games as we can and climb up the table, says Beckenham's Chris Hiscock

BECKENHAM TOWN’S newly-appointed assistant manager Chris Hiscock says he wants the club to finish as high as they can.

The Eden Park Avenue outfit reached the quarter-finals of the Macron Southern Counties East Football League Challenge Cup after beating Corinthian 4-2 on Tuesday night.

Striker Jamie Humphries took his goalscoring tally up to 25 goals for the season with a hat-trick in the final thirteen minutes of the game.

Beckenham Town sit in sixth-place in the league table with 36 points from 21 games, nine points adrift of unbeaten league leaders Phoenix Sports.

Jason Huntley takes his side to bitter-rivals Erith Town on Saturday.  The Dockers occupy the sole relegation spot with 12 points from 20 games.

Hiscock said: “They’re the hard games, they’re fighting for their lives.  They’ve got nothing to lose so they’ll give you a lot of hard work.

“If you haven’t got a professional attitude in those games you can easily come unstuck.”

Beckenham Town are a club that should be pushing towards promotion with their pristine playing surface at Eden Park Avenue and vastly-improved seated capacity at Eden Park Avenue.

“I think we’re happy,” admitted Hiscock.

“There are games that you think you should have won and you didn’t.

“There’s games where you think you didn’t deserve to win and you haven’t put the work-rate in.

“This part of the season now we’re concentrating on our work.  We at least want to work as hard as the other teams – if not harder and if we do that we’re confident that our football will show through and we’ve got the quality to go on and win games.

“We’re happy enough. There’s a lot of quality in this league and especially at this time of the year the grounds aren’t as nice to play on but we want to win as many games as we can and climb as high up the league as we can.”

Beckenham Town have reached the quarter-finals of both the League Challenge Cup and welcome Ryman Premier Leaguers Harrow Borough to Eden Park Avenue in the last eight of the London Senior Cup (Sponsored by Coventry Scaffolding) towards the end of the month.

“The league table doesn’t lie as they say and on paper Phoenix are a very strong side in defence,” said Hiscock.

“They look like the side to go on and win it at the minute.  I don’t know what their squad’s like but we don’t worry about any other teams. All we want to do is work hard against teams, play our football and pick as many wins as we can.

“Listen, all managers and coaches will tell you the same.  We’ve got the quality, if we put the work in we’ll win every game and that’s what we’re looking to do, or at least give a good showing of ourselves.”
