We want to beat last year's record, says Fisher boss Gary Lisney

Sunday 27th February 2011
FISHER manager Gary Lisney says his side are chomping at the bit for Monday night’s fixture against Holmesdale to go ahead after two weeks without a game because of the weather.

Speaking about the basement battle (third-from-bottom against second-from-bottom) at Champion Hill, Lisney told www.fisherfc.co.uk  “It’s felt like absolutely ages since our last game and the lads were pretty gutted that Hythe was called off as they’ve been wanting to bounce back quickly after the Erith & Belvedere defeat.

“Hopefully we’ll now have a chance to do that Monday, although it won’t be an easy game. They’re a difficult side to break down and don’t concede many, they’ve only conceded 28 all season which is quite impressive really when you compare that to the other sides around them.”

Fisher completed last season in thirteenth place (fourth from bottom), with 32 points, with a record of nine wins five draws from 30 league games.

At the present time, The Fish are in the bottom three, with a record of five wins and two draws from 19 games.

Lisney said: “Our target for the season has been to make clear progress on last season.  We want to finish higher, we want to beat our points tally from last year and if we’re to do that it’s all about winning the games against the teams around us, especially when we’re at home.

“We’ve had two high tempo training sessions since the Erith & Belvedere game and the players are looking sharp. Kris (Hollidge) trained with us for the first time in three months on Thursday and although he still needs to take it easy and not rush his recovery it’s good to have him back with us and I’ll see how he’s feeling about perhaps making the squad Monday. He’s a quality player and we’ve missed his tenacity at times I think”

Although one place below the Fish in the table, Holmesdale have improved in recent weeks, holding both VCD Athletic and Hythe Town to draws and convincingly beating Norton Sports 3-0 during their last six outings.

Admission prices have been confirmed at £6 (adults), £4 (OAP’s) and £1 (under 16’s)
