We want all of the boys' to give their all, says Bromley coach Neil Smith

Thursday 13th December 2012
BROMLEY assistant manager Neil Smith says all the pressure is on Kidderminster Harriers going into Saturday’s FA Carlsberg Trophy Second Round tie at Hayes Lane.

Kidderminster Harriers, who reached the final in 1991, 1995 and 2007, have won the silveware once, with a replay win over Burton Albion back in 1987 at nearby West Browmich Albion.

Bromley, meanwhile, have reached the Third Round on one previous occasion, when they went down to a 2-1 defeat at Worcester City back in 1999-2000.

Smith knows beating a full-time outfit in seventh-place in the Blue Square Bet (Conference) Premier is going to be tough.

“No pressure at all. I think all the pressure is on Kidderminster,” said Smith, whose side are fourth-from-bottom in the league below, the Blue Square Bet (Conference) South.

“They’ve put a fantastic run together in the last couple of months and we know it’s going to be difficult but we’ve got nothing to lose.

“Hopefully we can go out there and play with a bit of freedom, having no presusre on us at all.

“Being at home you still want to put in a good shift for the supporters.

“We’ve done some homework on them. We know a few of their players and things like that and formations.  As I’ve said pretty much since day dot at Bromley, I’m only worried about how we are.

“If we turn up we’ll give anyone a game and that’s been a problem. Consistently turning up and putting in the performances we know we can.

“We’ve got ex-League players in our team as well as they have. I know they’re going to be difficult. They’ve started off a little bit slow in the season and since then they’ve gone from strength-to-strength.”

When asked which Bromley team will turn up on Saturday, Smith replied, “Hopefully the one that turned up against Boreham Wood, the one that turned up against Havant and even Welling with ten-men!

“That’s what we want. We want all the boys’ to give their all.

“We created enough chances on Saturday and we just didn’t take them.”

The club announced this week that striker Richard Pacquette, 29, has been released by mutual constent, after scoring seven goals in 21 appearances for the club.

The 22-club stiker scored Bromley’s winning goal that sealed a 1-0 win over Worcester City in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round.

Smith said: “He wasn’t getting in the side. I think Richard wants to play first team football. He’s at the age when he doesn’t want to sit on the bench. He wants to be in the starting eleven and we couldn’t give him that each week.

“I thinik it’s by mutual consent it’s best for both parties that he goes out and plays more games.

“Bringing Louie Theophanous and Joe Pigott - and having an understanding and playing more regularly than not - he’s got an opportuity to play regular football for someone else.

“He’s been great and I can’t knock Richard one bit. His attitude has been spot on. He’s been great with the young players. He’s not been any trouble whatsoever.

“It’s a decision the club and the player has made together that maybe we go separate ways.

“As a person or as a player I can’t criticise anything. He’s been 100% for us and helped us to get into the first round of the FA Cup.

“We thank him dearly and I wish him all the best at the next club that he’s at.”

Smith admits losing consistent central defender Moses Swaibu on Saturday is a massive blow for the team ahead of their game against Kidderminster Harriers.

“It’s a massive blow,” he said.  “Moses has probably been the most consistent player for us this season and to lose him for this match and the way he’s playing at the moment we’re always going to miss him.

“It gives someone else a chance to come in and stake a claim. Moses is going to be out for the next few games as well so it’s not a one-off game.  We need someone to replace him for the next couple of weeks.

“It’s three games so it’s a massive loss. We’ll sort something out for Saturday and we’ll take from one game at a time from then.”

Meanwhile, Rob Gillman and Theophanous have both been ruled-out after playing in The FA Carlsberg Trophy for Whitstable Town and Staines Town respectively.
