We've got to perform at home, says Bromley boss Mark Goldberg

BROMLEY boss Mark Goldberg says his side must start doing better on home soil.

The Ravens went into last night’s game against fourth-placed Chelmsford City with eight home league wins from their last 36 home league games since the start of last season.

But the Hayes Lane faithful were treated to a special performance from their side as they defeated Chelmsford City 2-0, courtesy of goals from Louie Theophanous and substitute Tony Finn.

Underperfoming Bromley climbed up one place to thirteenth in the Blue Square Bet (Conference) South table with 39 points from 29 games.  They are eight points behind fifth-placed Boreham Wood and eight points clear of the relegation zone.

But Goldberg admitted last night that his side should be doing better and that the fans demand his players to be challenging for a top six-place.

”We’ve got to take one step at a time, but we do feel that recently that the building blocks are starting to come into place,” said Goldberg.

”We’re going to take each game as it comes but we believe that we can build on the foundations that we’ve been building over the last eighteen months.”

It has been a good week for Bromley after completing back-to-back wins, after snatching a dramatic last-gasp 3-2 win at Billericay Town at the weekend, courtesy of Danny Waldren’s penalty.

Goldberg wants the momentum from those two wins to sail into Saturday’s home game against Dorchester Town.

The Dorset side arrive in Kent full of confidence after they thrashed struggling Billericay Town 6-1 last night to climb into eighth-place in the table.

Bromley came away from Dorchester with an excellent 4-0 win in January and Goldberg warns: ”We’re expecting for them to be wanting revenge on us for our win at their place a few weeks ago.

”It will probably be the toughest game that we’ll have in the last four games.

”We’re going into Saturday believing that we can get the win, but I’m under no false illusions that it’s going to be anything but probably our toughest test in the last four games.”

Goldberg says he now knows the formula to win at Hayes Lane.

Former Greenwich Borough midfielder Mike Jones relished a free role in the hole behind lone striker Theophanous last night and he was the driving force behind Bromley’s impressive performance against Chelmsford City last night.

He said: “We’ve just got to stick to the formula that we’re starting to put together, working, as I say, with the foundations that we’re building and just work to not to change too much, but hopefully where we see areas where we can make improvement and learn from every game and slowly improve what we build.”

When asked how to improve the club’s home form, Goldberg simply replied: “Well, we do what we did last night.  We’ve got to perform, haven’t we?

”As I’ve said before we all know that we should’ve done better at home but I think we’re pleased that we’ve got the potential in the squad that we’ve got.”

Goldberg takes his side to play bitter rivals Sutton United at Gander Green Lane next Tuesday.

Bromley knocked the Surrey side out of The FA Cup with a 1-0 win at Gander Green Lane back in September, their run in the competition was ended by League Two side Fleetwood Town in the First Round.

But Paul Doswell’s side extracted revenge by winning the league game 1-0 at Hayes Lane on New Years’ Day.

”It’s going to be another tough game,” said Goldberg.

”It’s all close isn’t it, where we are (in the table).

”We played better in the FA Cup against Sutton than we played at home so I think we’ll be going there wanting revenge on them for our home defeat.”
