We've got to get our act together at home, says Ward
JIM WARD insists his Ramsgate side will turn the corner tomorrow night - and win their first league game of the season on home soil, writes Stephen McCartney.
Ramsgate have yet won at home in the Ryman Premier League this season, although they came really close on Saturday, throwing away a 2-0 lead to settle for a point against ten-man Canvey Island.
"Well, for 45 minutes we were superb, 2-0 up, and quarter-of-an-hour into the second half, they had a man sent off, but fair play to them, they set to their task,” Ward told www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight.
“They got a bit of the run of the ball but to be fair, the second goal, we had two players off the park getting treatment.
“There was a suspicion of a foul on the goalkeeper, but I’m not clutching at straws, but at the moment the run of the ball has not run for us.
“The changing room after the game is disappointment - not dejection. We realise what we’ve got there, we’ll turn it around. Obviously we’re concerned but we’re confident that we can turn it around.”
Just three points from seven home games has seen the Rams drop one place above the drop zone, but Ward insists that poor form will change for Carshalton Athletic’s visit tomorrow night.
The Robbins are currently fourth in the table and have yet tasted defeat in any of their seven away games in the league this season.
“We keep trying our best, we keep getting closer and closer,” said Ward.
“I think that’s the third time something in the last minute has cost us. Obviously they’ve scored Saturday, Maidstone scored in the last minute and we missed a penalty against Hornchurch. It’s about time the Gods shone on us.
Remaining upbeat ahead of tomorrow’s game, Ward feels it’s going to be a cracking game
He said: “I’d imagine from their point of view it will be an open game. Looking at their team they’ll be a lot of goals. Having said that it’ll probably be 0-0. Both teams score goals and both teams let in goals.
“We don’t want to go in the dreaded bottom four, that’s the last thing we want to do. We’ve got to get our act together.”
Ward admitted he is now happy with the players that he has at his disposal at Southwood Stadium.
“We have had a lot of new signings, a lot of movements,” he said. “Everyone’s fit, I’ll be able to pick the same side as Saturday.
“I think I’m close to it. I’ve got some good players in the club, there’s no doubt in that.”
Meanwhile, Steffan Ball is a doubt with a leg injury that he sustained against Canvey Island on Saturday.
