We've got to build on our recent form, says Yorath

MARGATE boss Terry Yorath says his side are showing signs of improvement as they bid to maintain their Ryman Premier League status.

A wonder-strike from Wayne Wilson, taking his tally to six for the season, and a late Ryan Peters’ finish, sealed a vital 2-0 win over Tooting & Mitcham United at Hartsdown Park on Saturday.

The Blues’ eighth league win of the season takes them within touching distance of safety, level on points (28) with Thanet rivals Ramsgate, who, at present, are one place above the dreaded relegation line.

Yorath, speaking to www.margate-fc.com, praised former Maidstone United stopper Pat Mullin for keeping the Terrors at bay during the first half.

“We could have been two or three goals down quite easily,” said the Welshman. “Pat pulled off some great saves.

“Then, the second half was more or less about us. We had chances that we didn’t take, but we took two of them, thank goodness, and we got three points.”

Yorath is delighted that his side are starting to show some form as they enter the business end to a disappointing campaign.

“I think it’s the confidence the players have got in themselves,” said Yorath. “There’s games in the past where we have played really well and we haven’t got anything out of the game.

“We’ve got to build on that; we have built on that and now we look a little bit more stronger at the back.”

Two wins in three games, just one goal conceded in those games and things look to be moving in the right direction for the Blues.

“I thought we played very, very well,” said Wilson. “When we went forward, I thought we showed a lot of creativity and first of all, our defence was quality again, like it was against Harlow.

Margate travel to Hastings United on Saturday.
