We've got to be at our best to produce giantkilling, says Justin Luchford

FAVERSHAM TOWN boss Justin Luchford says his side must be on top of their game if they are to cause a FA Carlsberg Trophy giant killing on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Two-times winners Kingstonian arrive at Salters Lane sitting in third place in the Ryman Premier League table, just one point adrift of leaders Lowestoft Town - and Luchford is looking forward to the First Qualifying Round tie.

“I think it’s a massive game for us and I think one of the things we must do on Saturday is enjoy it,” Luchford told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“We’ve done well over the last 12 months and these are the games that we want to be involved in.  It’s a big game for the club and the town and hopefully we can get a few people up there and enjoy the day.”

Luchford added: “We’ve had them watched, we’ve done our homework on them as I always do.

“You’re talking about Kingstonian here, you’re talking about a team that won the Trophy twice and you’re talking about players who play in front of decent crowds every week, a team trying to get into the Conference South and everything looks like they will be there or there abouts this year.

“At the end of the day we have to be at our best on Saturday if we’re to get anything out of the game. If we’re at our best and they’re not quite at their best, then who knows.

“I think if they turn up and produce what they’re capable of producing then it will be an uphill task for us without a doubt.

“What you find with teams that go away from home against lesser opposition sometimes they don’t give 100%.  We’ve got to hope perhaps they have a bit of an off-day and we have a good day.”

The Faversham boss hopes knocking out Kingstonian on Saturday will lift the new-boys up from their present position in the table.

The Lilywhites are fifteenth place in the Ryman League Division One South table, with three wins and two draws from their first 10 games at this level.

Reflecting on his side’s season so far, Luchford said: “It’s ok.  We’ve not set the world alight, but we’ve certainly not disgraced ourselves.  We feel a bit hard done by at the moment to be honest.”

Admitting that his side should have won three of the five games that they lost, Luchford added: “Everyone involved with me and the players are despondent about (our league position) at the moment but that’s football and the good thing about this league is there’s so many more games so we’ve got a chance to put that right.  It’s very early on in the season and we’ve still got another 32 games to go.

“It’s certainly not all doom and gloom and the luck isn’t falling for us.  I’ve got no problems with the players and we’ve done ok.”
