We've got an opportunity to hold onto second place, says Faversham Town boss Ray Turner

FAVERSHAM TOWN manager Ray Turner has challenged his side to close the gap on league leaders Burgess Hill Town on Saturday. The Lilywhites leapfrogged over Whyteleafe into second place in the Ryman League Division One South table following their 4-1 win at Three Bridges on Tuesday night.
Jamie Maxted was sent-off for two yellows in the 43rd minute and Jack Harris, 20, scored all four of Faversham’s goals.
With unbeaten Burgess Hill Town in FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round action away to Vanarama Conference side Dartford, Faversham Town can close the gap to four points with a home win over Redhill on Saturday.
“We owe them one really, they beat us home and away last year and we were very disappointing in both games,” said Turner.
“Hopefully that’s motivation enough to get a result.
“Our home form is fantastic, we’re unbeaten and we want to protect that so it’s something worth holding onto and not only that we’ve got an opportunity to hold onto second place.”
When asked whether Burgess Hill are running away with the league, Turner replied: “I think it’s way too early to say things like that! A win on Saturday puts us four points off the top. Four points in this league, that’s nothing!”
The Lilywhites then travel to Whitstable Town next Tuesday.
Jim and Danny Ward’s side are in ninth-place in the table and are unbeaten at home in the league, although they were stuffed 3-1 by AFC Sudbury in The FA Trophy Preliminary Round last weekend.
Turner said: “Kent derbies, I look forward to them. I like going down to Whitstable. It’s a game to really look forward to.
“We’ve got Saturday to focus and if we can go there on the back of another three points, they’ve also got a good home record but we’ve shown at Three Bridges (who were unbeaten at home in the league) that we’re more than capable of winning anywhere.”
