West Wickham plot another Trophy upset
WEST WICKHAM boss Alan Cotton urges supporters to make the trip to Sevenoaks Town tomorrow, as the club bid to knock yet another Kent League side out of the Kent Senior Trophy, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Southern Amateur League side have already dumped out Norton Sports (4-0) and Beckenham Town (1-0) in the previous rounds - and are more than capable of inflicting the same damage when they visit to Sevenoaks Town.
West Wickham arrive at Greatness Park still sitting proudly of the top-flight of the Southern Amateur League, leading Winchmore Hill by two points, although they have three games in hand.
Cotton, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight, believes those fans that made the short trip to Eden Park Avenue to see their side deservedly pull off an impressive 1-0 win, courtesy of Dan Haines’ 20th minute driven winner, will swell the crowd at Greatness Park tomorrow.
“It was a shame about Saturday’s postponement,” said Cotton. “We had two coaches arranged for our supporters but luckily we were able to cancel them.
“I hope that quite a few of them will make the trip to Greatness Park as we haven’t played a game since 20th December 2008, and they will have forgotten what we look like.”
Sevenoaks Town, meanwhile, go into the quarter-final clash sitting 12th place in the table, with a record of five wins and four draws from 16 games.
And Cotton, who wants to win the competition for the very first time, added: “Although we haven’t seen Sevenoaks Town play, we know that they are a good side and we are expecting a tough game.
“There are no easy games in our league programme and there are no easy games in the Kent Senior Trophy, so we will set out to enjoy the game.”
