We're really working hard to pull ourselves up the table, says Erith Town boss Ennio Gonnella

Wednesday 24th December 2014
ERITH TOWN manager Ennio Gonnella says his side will start climbing the table once his injured players’ return.

The Dockers are battling to avoid becoming the first side to be relegated from the Southern Counties East Football League.

They sit second-from-bottom in the table, having collected 12 points (three wins and three draws) from their 20 games.

Only Deal Town (also on 12 points) are below them in the table, although the Kent coast club do have a couple of games in hand.

“For the past six or seven weeks we have had a rough ride.  Results, performance and most importantly of all, injuries,” said Gonnella, who has Craig Clark (assistant manager) and Jamie Leggett (coach) in his management team.

“We have had in total six main first team players at once and more over the last weeks. We are slowly getting our players back and looking forward to moving away from the bottom of the table.”

Landlords Cray Valley have home advantage over the Dockers in Saturday’s league game – one that Erith Town must win to kick-start their campaign.

The Millers have climbed up to thirteenth-place in the table, having collected 25 points from 19 league outings.

Gonnella hopes sharing the same ground will spice up Saturday’s encounter.

“Cray Valley will be as always a tough fixture but last time round it was a 3-3 draw and we should have walked away winners,” he said.

“Obviously with the ground sharing it makes a much tastier fixture.

“This club (Erith Town) has a great history and the chairman and committee are also really working hard to pull us up the table where we belong and where we need to be.”
