We're making mistakes and getting punished, admits Seager

Whitstable Town look unlikely to follow in the footsteps of both Ramsgate and Maidstone United - finding life in the Ryman League very tough, writes Stephen McCartney.

Ramsgate and Maidstone United both stormed out of the Kent League and won Ryman League Division One South at the first attempt during the past two seasons.

But the Oystermen are currently in the bottom five at present, with just one win and two draws from their first six outings, and welcome a Chipstead side to The Belmont on Tuesday that’s still searching for their first point of the season.

The Chips lost their sixth successive league game on Saturday, going down to a Ian Varley goal against Sittingbourne at High Road, but Whitstable boss Marc Seager would like to bounce back after Tooting & Mitcham United won 4-0 at The Belmont.

“No excuses, we didn’t deserve anything out of the game,” Seager admitted when speaking to www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“If you make simple mistakes at this level then you will get punished.

“We knew when the (fixture) list came out that we were in for a tough first few games. We’ve played six so far and four of those are against sides at the top of the table."

Assistant manager Simon Halsey added: “What is so disappointing is the first two goals within five minutes of the start were from our mistakes, simple as that.

“We work on keeping things tight week in week out and in training work on installing the disciplines needed.

“Once those players cross the white line, there is little we can do. You can’t plan for going two-nil down in the first few minutes after that we were always on the back foot.”
