We're looking forwad to playing against a big club, says Cray Valley boss Steve Chapman

Tuesday 01st April 2014
CRAY VALLEY manager Steve Chapman says he is looking forward to the club’s biggest game in their history against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday night.

The League Two club will come to Eltham to contest a London Senior Cup Sponsored by Coventry Scaffolding Semi-Final, with the winners facing Ryman Premier League opposition in Metropolitan Police or Wingate & Finchley, who play each other on 8 April, in the showpiece Final.

“Obviously looking forward to playing against a big club but realistically I know they will field a young side,” said Chapman

“It’s a massive game for us and we’re hoping for a record crowd.

“I’ve picked up a few injuries in the past week but whilst I feel for them it gives others a chance.

“Let’s hope we put on a good show tomorrow.  We’ve already beaten Welling and Tooting & Mitcham so if we play as we did in those games, you may see another upset!”

The Millers are facing AFC Wimbledon because cup holders Bromley controversially pulled out of the competition last week because they were told to play AFC Wimbledon tomorrow night, 24 hours after playing Dover Athletic in the Kent Senior Cup Semi-Finals.

Chapman, who is stepping down as manager at the end of the season, previously stated that he wants to sign off by guiding the club to the London Senior Cup Final.

The club are set to appoint his successor by the end of the month.

Chapman said: “With regards to who will be taking over from me, we have received quite a bit of interest, which shows how far we have come as a club.

“I’ve really enjoyed my three and a half years in charge but it’s like having two jobs!

“Any manager at this level will tell you the new season starts as soon as the old one finishes and that’s why our aim is to appoint a new gaffer by the end of the month."
