WE'RE GOING TO WEMBLEY: Fleet confident they can break Trophy Final crowd record
EBBSFLEET UNITED are confident that they will break the record attendance figure for a FA Trophy Final when they lock horns with Torquay United on Saturday, 10th May 2008 - their first ever trip to Wembley Stadium, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Fleet heroes booked their place at Wembley Stadium for the very first time, thanks to their heroic 4-2 aggregate win over Aldershot Town.
Everybody that make the trip to the Recreation Ground to see the Fleet brave hearts earn a 1-1 draw are still on a high today.
And tickets for the showpiece final - the first time in eight years that a Kent non-league club have played at Wembley Stadium, when Tommy Sampson’s Deal Town side defeated Chippenham Town to win the FA Carlsberg Vase - will be in hot demand.
Plenty of fans have contacted the Stonebridge Road club already, asking about how they can get their hands on Cup Final tickets.
“Within 12 hours of the Fleet confirming their place at Wembley Stadium on May 10, the club has already received more than 100 emails requesting ticket details,” a club statement said on their website www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk.
On ticket allocation, the statement added: “Please note that no confirmation about ticket prices, allocation or points of sale have yet been made but as soon as they are, this information will be communicated on the club website, at MyFootballClub.co.uk and in the local press.
“The club has to liaise with the Football Association, with Torquay United and with a host of other bodies before anything can be confirmed and as such we cannot respond personally to email requests for ticket information.”
The Fleet are confident that their first ever visit to Wembley will break the record attendance for a FA Trophy Final.
The Kent club added: “Please also bear in mind that the record attendance for a Trophy Final is 53,262 and that Wembley’s capacity is 90,000 - so ensuring that everyone who wants a ticket should get one in plenty of time before May 10.
“We are, of course, aware of the massive interest this will have created locally and nationally and will endeavour to publish relevant information as soon as we can.”
