We're confident going into Police visit, says Lovell

ASHFORD TOWN boss Steve Lovell says his side are close to winning their first league game of the season, writes Stephen McCartney. The Nuts & Bolts may be at the foot of the Ryman League Division One South table, having picked up just one point from their first four league games, but last Sunday’s morale-boosting 6-1 home win over Mile Oak in the preliminary round of the FA Cup, was what the doctor ordered ahead of Saturday’s trip to Metropolitan Police.
Joe Fuller, Nick Smith and Mitchell Sherwood all opened their goalscoring accounts against a very poor Mile Oak side and the returning Luke Coleman fired home a 26 minute hat-trick to book a trip to Leatherhead in the next round.
Lovell takes his side to Imber Court on Saturday with confidence lifted and the Welshman believes his side will come away the excellent facilities with their first league win under their belts.
“You just can’t turn the corner on just one result, but the last four performances have been very good,” Lovell told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“You take away the Croydon Athletic one (which we lost 7-0 on their travels) apart from that every performance has been good.
“The only difference today is we’ve stuck the ball into the back of the net.
“We’ve played like this for the last three or four games but it helps when you do put the ball into the net.
“Metropolitan Police will be a different story altogether. They’re a good side but we’ll go there with a little bit of confidence and have a good go.”
Lovell admitted that he faces a “dilemma” as to which strikers should play on Saturday, considering that Coleman, who has returned to Homelands following a spell trying to get into Ebbsfleet United’s first team squad, scoring a hat-trick against a Mile Oak side that were rooted to the foot of the Sussex County League with a 100% losing record.
