We're a match for anyone, warns Metcalf

LORDSWOOD boss Kevin Metcalf fancies his side’s chances ahead of their Kent Senior Trophy tie at Erith & Belvedere tomorrow night, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Medway outfit have picked up in recent weeks and sealed only their second league win of the season, at second-placed Holmesdale, a couple of weeks ago.

And they travel to Park View Road in buoyant mood and are confident of sealing a trip to Vandanel Kent County League side Orpington in the quarter-finals.

“I’ve said all along we would pick up after Christmas,” Metcalf told www.kentishfootball.co.uk  tonight. “We’ve got the team playing how we want them to play now and I think we’ve turned the corner and making it very hard for teams to beat us.”

The former Tunbridge Wells boss is confident his side will start climbing the Bulmers Cider Kent League table - they are nine points adrift of their next opponents, Beckenham Town.

“We’ve had a tough sort of five weeks really, playing the top teams, which I’d rather do,” he said.

And he is looking forward to an entertaining game at Erith & Belvedere tomorrow night.

“We’re going to go there to win the game,” he said. “But I think it will be an entertaining game because both teams want to get the ball down and play football - hopefully it will be a good spectacle."

And longer-term, Metcalf added, "We won’t be second from bottom at the end of the season. I believe there’s still a lot of points to play for right until the last game.

“I believe we’ve turned the corner and as I’ve said all along, we’ll start picking up points now.”

Striker Dan Jeffrey’s has injured his ankle so will be out for tomorrow’s trip to Park View Road, so youngster Nicky Minshell will be drafted in.

“We’re a very young squad and Dan Jeffrey’s was one of our senior players, so he will be a loss tomorrow night,” said Metcalf.

“Obviously, I know how their going to play and they do like to play football. It’s played at pace and we will match them.

“I’ve said all along, we will match any top side now.

“We’ve said to the board this year, it’s all about building a side for next season and the board have asked they would just like to compete and over the last two, three and four weeks, that’s what we do now.”
