We're all looking forward to the challenges ahead in the new campaign, says Welling boss Jamie Day
The Wings are pleased to announce that leading scorer Ross Lafayette, Joe Healy, Jake Gallagher, Loui Fazakerley, Harry Beautyman, Lee Butcher, Jamie Turner, Barney Williams, Sam Corne, Malik Ouani and Malachi Hudson are all staying at Park View Road.
Williams, 19, impressed during his loan spell at VCD Athletic, where he helped Tony Russell’s side claim the Ryman League Division One North title on a dramatic final day of the season.
Day told www.wellingunited.com: “I’m delighted that we’ve secured the services of this core of players who performed so well for the club in the past 12 months at Conference Premier level.
“We’re all looking forward to the challenges ahead in the new campaign and I’m sure we’re all looking to improve and push ourselves as far as we can, both individually and collectively.”
Kurtis Guthrie, 21, was also offered a new deal but he has declined the option of staying at Park View Road. However, the club are entitled to compensation from his potential new club as he is under the age of 24.
Day also confirmed the departures of club captain Lee Clarke, 30, and full-back Jack Obersteller, 25, who have both left the club after not being offered new deals.
Clarke made 197 appearances for the Wings and scored an impressive 59 goals, captaining the side to Conference South title success in 2012/13, while Obersteller departs with 163 appearances for the Wings to his name.
Day said: “I’d like to go on record to thank both players for their services to the club over a number of years.
“Lee joined the club before I came back as manager and Jack was one of the first players that I signed.
The Wings finished their Skrill Premier campaign in sixteenth-place in the table with 60 points from 46 league games – nine points clear of the relegation zone.
