We need to improve if we are to get close to landing the title, says Lydd Town boss Dave Smith

LYDD TOWN boss Dave Smith says he wants to guide the club into the Southern Counties East Football League next season. The Lydders are in second-place in the Kent Invicta League table with 37 points from 14 games – two points behind leaders Hollands & Blair with a game in hand.
Lydd Town are expected to rack up a cricket score tomorrow when they travel to Crockenhill.
The Crocks have lost all thirteen league games this season, scoring seven and conceded 83 goals and they have conceded 100 goals in all competitions so far this season.
Speaking on the eve of their trip to Wested Meadow, Smith said: “It’s a no win game as everyone expects us to win so we have to be careful but deliver the three points – no question!”
The Kent Invicta League shuts down over the festive period and Lydd Town’s next game will be at home to fifth-placed Bearsted on 28 December.
Smith said: “It’s a difficult time for all players as they are not paid and have family. I would prefer a break but that’s how it is.
“We have tough fixtures but at the end of the day we all play the same teams as the season goes and no fixtures are easy.
“The season so far has been good but I feel we can still do better and we will need to improve if we are to get close to landing the title.”
When asked about the club’s aspirations for the rest of the season, Smith replied: “Simple really – to be in the position both on and off the field to be able to take Lydd Town into the Southern Counties East Football League. It’s the reason I went back and it’s what I want to deliver to our chairman.”
