We need to gain maximum points if we are to win the league title, says Blair boss Paul Piggott

Thursday 17th April 2014
HOLLANDS & BLAIR manager Paul Piggott says his side can’t afford to drop any points during their final five games of the season.

The Gillingham-based club are sitting proudly at the summit of the Kent Invicta League with 61 points on the board, five points clear of second-placed Lydd Town.

Piggott takes his side to Meridian VP on Good Friday.  The Charlton-based club are sitting in the bottom three, having won four of their 24 league games and collecting 15 points this season.

“It’s another game we need to gain maximum points if we are to achieve what we set out to do at the start of the season,” said Piggott.

“It doesn’t matter to me who we play and where they are in the league table because we need to perform as some results over the last few weeks have shown if you’re not at your best you can drop points.

“At this stage of the season every result is magnified because of the games that are left.

“We need to get what we are going for and that is three points, although we don’t take any game for granted and we’ll prepare and take on the game as it was any other this season.

Blair welcome Rusthall to Star Meadow on Easter Monday (3:00pm) and the Rustics are enjoying their best ever Kent Invicta League campaign as Gary Sharman’s side are in the top-six with 39 points from 21 games.

Piggott said: “Momentum is everything at this time of the season so working hard and getting the points tomorrow will take us into another tough game on Monday at home to a Rusthall side that has turned their season around and are on a bit of a run.

“The players are enjoying their football at the moment as much as I am watching it.”
