We must improve our home form, says Martin

Thursday 02nd October 2008

MAIDSTONE UNITED midfielder Andy Martin is looking forward to playing against one of his former clubs on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Stones welcome Sutton United to Bourne Park going in search of their second home win in the league this season.

Sutton United were tipped by many to be challenging for the Ryman Premier League title this season, following their relegation from the Blue Square South, but have bagged four wins and three draws from their first ten games and are four places behind the Kent side in eleventh place.

Caterham resident Martin, 28, watched another of his former clubs, Whyteleafe, cause an upset in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round, with a 2-0 win over Blue Square South side Welling United last night.

And the Welshman, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk admits the Stones home form in the league has to improve, although both of their FA Cup wins - over Tooting & Mitcham United and Fisher Athletic - have been at Bourne Park.

“I’ve had a few (clubs) now, but I’m definitely looking forward to the game,” Martin said.

“Sutton are a big club in non-league football, but we’re doing well at the moment.

“I think at home people seem to be making up this myth that we struggle at home and I suppose there’s obviously proof in the pudding with the results, but I think we’re a good side and I think we’ve got more than enough to beat them on Saturday.”
