We must get back to winning ways at home, says Miles - EXCLUSIVE
Chatham Town boss Phil Miles expects his side to win their first home league game of the season - at the fourth attempt - on Tuesday night, writes Stephen McCartney.
Chats welcome a Dulwich Hamlet side to Maidstone Road, who are currently two places below them in seventeenth place in the Ryman League Division One South table.
“From what I understand this year Dulwich have changed their manager (and) their personnel has changed on the pitch,” Miles said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“I think they play a different way than they did last year. Everyone knew Dulwich played total football last year.
“From what I understand this year, new manager, new players, new style of play, they’re a different Dulwich to last year.”
Despite picking up just a point on home soil, Miles sees Hamlet’s visit as a good opportunity to break their home duck.
“I need a win to be honest,” he said. “We need to start winning at home. It’s nice to put on a good performance in front of your home supporters - it gets people through the gate.
“Unfortunately I’m right in saying we haven’t won at home in the league this year so I’m hoping that we can start winning our home games.”
Chatham Town’s three match unbeaten run came to an end when they lost 1-0 at home to Walton & Hersham.
“To be honest I wasn’t there,” said Miles. “I’m still recovering from my back operation.
“I’m still not fit enough to go so I wasn’t there yesterday. Steve Best and Alan Collins were in charge. They took over against Margate and they took over for yesterday and they’ll take the game on Tuesday as well.
“I’m hoping to be around next weekend, for the trip to Croydon Athletic, if not I’ll watch the reserves home game with Dartford.”
Shane Suter (knee ligaments) remains the only injury doubt for Chatham at present.
“I’m hoping he’s not going to be far away,” said Miles. “He feels that he can play but all players want to play with little injuries.
“We’ve got to take it easy with Shane because he’s dying to get back and play but we have to make sure he’s 100%.
“We’ve got most of the squad most fit and healthy, so that’s a bonus for us.”
Miles explained the current situation following his back operation at Blackheath hospital.
He said: “I came out last Monday and I’ve had a week bed rest. I went out this morning for the first time to watch my son play football so I’m back and moving around.
“The operation went well but I’ve got to take six weeks off work, I’m a builder, and I’m hoping to be around next weekend football wise.
“I just need to be careful for a couple of weeks because I don’t want to undo the work that has been done.”
