We must cut out our mistakes, says Dolby

Tony Dolby admits his Tonbridge Angels side are finding life in the Ryman Premier League tough - because it’s their second season, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Angels lost their unbeaten home record last night, with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of their Kentish rivals Folkestone Invicta.

And they now find themselves in the bottom five, having picked up five points from their opening six outings, whereas this time last season, they got off to a flying start.

Dolby demands that his under-performing side bounce back from their derby defeat, and beat Harlow Town on Saturday.

“Taking aside performances and taking aside individual errors, we need to be getting points on the board,” he told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“However it comes, we need to be getting three points come Saturday, to give us that kick-start that we need.

“I don’t think we’re far away personally. I think that we are getting punished for mistakes.

“Saying that, teams aren’t going to come here and give you three points, or you’re not going to go to places and they’re going to give you things.

“You have to work extremely hard for them and I just think a little bit of luck and a little bit of solidity and cutting out the mistakes we will be where we want to be.”

Dolby knew their second season in the Ryman Premier League would be a lot more tougher.

“It’s always said that the second season is harder as it’s proving to be the case with us,” he admitted.

“I think last year we didn’t really make too many mistakes. I thought it was new ground for us and we were winning games and losing games and not drawing too many, which allowed us to accumulate quite a few points that way.

“This season I anticipated it being tighter. I did anticipate teams knowing a bit more about us, hence the changes I made during the summer.

“I thought I brought in a bit of quality in the side. Yes, we’ve had bad luck with injuries and for our own fault we’ve had suspensions.

“But at the end of the day, we’ve got to dust ourselves down and realise that we’ve got to work even harder now that we’ve got a bigger and better squad to get the results.”
