We lost to the better side, admits Seager - EXCLUSIVE
WHITSTABLE TOWN manager Marc Seager will take the positives out of their Kent Senior Cup exit and take them into their next game, at Leatherhead, on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
Seager, speaking EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight, admitted he didn’t mind losing 3-0 at Cray Wanderers in the quarter-finals of the Kent Senior Cup, as they were by far the best side that he’s seen this season.
“In football you have to hold your hands up at times and say you have been beaten by a better side and Cray are a very good side,” he said.
“They are probably, in my eyes, the best footballing side in this league.
“It was always going to be difficult for us and we’d take the positives into our game at Leatherhead on Saturday.”
Seager’s side are three points clear off the Ryman League Division One South drop zone but are more than capable of coming away from seventh-from-bottom Leatherhead with another vital three points to go with their 4-2 home win over Corinthian-Casuals last weekend.
“Positives we take from last night was some of our play was good,” said Seager.
“We still created chances away from home against a very good side and the players’ attitudes.
“I can’t fault the players’ attitudes. We’ve got sixteen games left and if the players’ still show that attitude we’ll still be a Ryman League side next year.”
Looking ahead to their trip to Fetcham Grove, Seager knows the Surrey side’s strengths.
“They’ve changed their manager a little while ago and picked up some decent results,” he explained.
“Two-nil down at Molesey and to come back to win 3-2 shows that the team has got a lot of bouncebackability and a lot of strength to do that.
“It was a big win for them, they’re four points in front of us and it’s a big game for us.
“We have to make sure teams like Leatherhead and others that the lead doesn’t open up in front of us.
“If we did go there and lose it won’t be the end of the world. We’re concentrating on Whitstable Town and taking one game at a time.
“We know what we have to do and if we put in the same performances as last Saturday and from last night, it should be a really good game between two good footballing teams.”
Winger Nick Bagley and midfielder Dan Whisker are expected to retain their places, having impressed during the 3-0 defeat at Hayes Lane.
Speaking about the recent arrivals from Ramsgate, Seager said: “They both done very well. Nick Bagley came through a good 90 minutes and Dan came on second half.
“Both of them put in solid performances and I’m sure both will play a big part in the next sixteen games.”
