Welling United told to keep their tax payments up to date

Sunday 06th February 2011
BROMLEY boss Hayden Bird has confirmed three players would be leaving Hayes Lane, one on loan and two on dual registrations.

Striker Paul Vines has signed for Ryman Premier League side Kingstonian on a thirty one day loan agreement. Nicky Greene has also been given permission to talk to the Kingsmeadow club while Reis Boyle has signed for Maidstone United.

Bird has allowed both Boyle (who has already had a loan spell with Billericay Town this season) and Greene to sign dual registration agreements and therefore the club can recall the players at any time.

Bird told www.bromleyfc.net: “Having evaluated the squad, both myself and Jerry (Dolke, the club’s owner) agreed we need to strengthen in one or two areas. In doing so, we have to generate our own funds and therefore needed to move one or two players on, before we introduced new faces.

“Paul has been great since he joined us in the summer, but will be the first to admit he hasn’t scored the goals we expected.

“In playing for Kingstonian for a month, we know he will scores a few goals and will return with a renewed confidence.

“Both Nicky and Reis need games. In allowing both players to leave on dual registration, we can recall the players at any time while in the meantime, both lads get the opportunity to play.

“We have identified our targets and during the week, we hope to bolster the squad with one or two new additions.”

Meanwhile, Bromley’s next opponents, Welling United, issued a statement yesterday to explain the club’s current financial situation.

The statement, published on the club’s website www.wellingunited.com,  said: “The club wishes to advise supporters that since the petition debt was cleared in December it has been engaged in continual dialogue with HMRC to reach an agreement as to how it could bring its PAYE and VAT liabilities up to date.

“Those present at the open meeting in December will recall that a little over £20,000 was owed to HMRC in respect of the period from September with regards to PAYE and one outstanding VAT liability. You will also be aware that no home league games were played in December and the gate receipts from the Luton ties were very disappointing, critically the Boxing Day fixture with Bromley was postponed.

“The above put significant pressure on the club's finances and led it to seek clarity from HMRC as to how it wished Welling United to bring its affairs up to date in the knowledge that it could not do this immediately. These negotiations have been both tense and protracted and as a continual background to them was the distinct possibility of legal action being taken by HMRC.

“On Friday after a number of different proposals had been made by us via our professional advisors HMRC finally advised the club as to what it would deem an acceptable schedule of payments. This involves a lump sum being paid this coming week, then maintaining its affairs up to date until May when a further lump sum will be required.

“We trust that Supporters will realise that whilst these negotiations have been taking place the issues of creating a new constitution and appointing a lenders representative have had to take a back seat. However, with the Club now having received the clarity required from HMRC it will now move to adopt the new constitution which will as stated before include representatives of both the lending group and the Supporters Association. This meeting will be set and attended by Dan Chapman of the Club's Solicitors Leathes Prior.”

The two Kent clubs clash at Park View Road on Tuesday night, vying to consolidate their positions in and around the Blue Square Bet South play-off zone.

Bromley slipped down another place, to fourth, following Farnborough’s 3-0 win over Ebbsfleet United yesterday, and The Lillywhites have bagged 45 points from 27 games, four points more than Welling, who are in sixth place, but with a couple of games in hand.

The Wings were defeated 3-1 at home to league leaders Braintree Town yesterday, as a sublime free-kick from player-manager Jamie Day wasn’t enough against the Essex side, but they are looking forward to attracting a four-figure crowd against their local rivals on Tuesday night.
