Our game at Yeovil tomorrow is going to be a great experience for us to play against a team who not long ago were a Championship side, says Welling United coach Hugo Langton
WELLING UNITED coach Hugo Langton says his side will have a go at beating Yeovil Town in The Buildbase FA Trophy First Round tomorrow.
The Wings are sitting in a disappointing fourteenth-place in the Vanarama National League South table, having collected 23 points from 20 games and hosts Yeovil Town are in second-place in the Vanarama National League having banked 44 points from 25 games and are three points adrift of leaders Barrow, who have a game in hand.
“We feel we should may be higher in the table but it’s still tight. A few wins and everything changes,” said Langton.
“Our game at Yeovil tomorrow is going to be a great experience for us to play against a team who not long ago were a Championship side.
“I’ve been there before and it’s a great place to play football. Yeovil are a full-time team at the top of the National League and we are a part-time team in the league below.
“We will have a go. We have a plan that hopefully the players can stick to, enjoy the experience and do our best to give a good account of ourselves.”
Mark Goldberg has secured the services of strikers Dipo Akinyemi from Braintree Town, formerly of Dulwich Hamlet and made Korrey Henry, 19, switch from Bromley permanent following a successful loan spell at Park View Road.
“We have a good squad now and we are delighted to have signed both Korrey Henry and Dipo Akinyemi. They’ll both add more attacking options for us as we enter a really busy schedule," said Langton.
Next Saturday, Welling United travel to Wealdstone in the league, before hosting local rivals Dartford on Boxing Day, Thursday 26 December (13:00) and travelling to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday 28 December before the game at Dartford on Wednesday 1 January 2020 (15:00).
Langton said: “Our schedule is daft really. We have between now and New Years Day five games, four of which are away. Who’s worked that out, I don’t know!
“Yeovil tomorrow is different as it’s a cup and we got drawn away but then there’s four league games and we have to play three of them away over the Christmas and New Year period.
“Surely, it would have been fairer to play two home and two away, as it also affects income.
“For all us part-time teams as well, is the game on the 28th December absolutely necessary?
“Anyway, it’s the same for us all so we will get on with it, same as everyone else.
