Coach Paul Barnes leaves Welling United
WELLING UNITED have confirmed the departure of coach Paul Barnes – just 27 days after returning to the club.
The Vanarama National League South club announced on Tuesday 11 June 2019 that chairman Mark Goldberg would return to the dug-out for his second spell as manager, with a coaching staff of Barnes, Hugo Langton and Osei Sankofa, with Garry Fiore being appointed director of football.
“Further to the announcement of the new playing management structure in June, due to family commitments, assistant coach Paul Barnes has decided that he will not be able to continue in his coaching role at the club,” said a club statement, which was published on www.wellingunited.com.
“Manager Mark Goldberg will not be replacing him and will continue to be supported by first team coach Hugo Langton and assistant coach Osei Sankofa.
“Welling United FC wishes Paul the best of luck for the future.”
Barnes said on Twitter: “Thank you to Mark Goldberg for the opportunity and understanding. Wishing Welling United, Osei Sankofa and Hugo Langton nothing but the best for the season ahead, top people and professionals.”
The Wings opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw at Margate and have re-signed Connor Dymond, having scored against the Wings for the Isthmian League Premier Division side on Saturday.
A Margate statement, which was published on www.margate-fc.co.uk said: “Dymond netted against the Wings in Saturday’s friendly at Hartsdown Park, has on Sunday evening signed for Mark Goldberg’s side after an approach was made on Saturday night after the fixture.
“Margate FC is naturally disappointed to lose a player of Connor’s ability before the start of the season but wish him well for the upcoming campaign.”
Goldberg returns to Bromley – where he was the manager that guided the Lillywhites to the Conference South title in April 2015 – on Tuesday night (19:45pm).
Welling United have been dubbed “Bromley Old Boys” for the fixture with a number of former Bromley players in the Welling United squad, including Joe Anderson, Anthony Cook, Dymond, Bradley Goldberg, Reece Prestedge and Rob Swaine – and Langton.
Bromley began their pre-season campaign with a goal-less home draw against Fulham at the weekend.
