We know a win is round the corner, says Welling United boss Loui Fazakerley

WELLING UNITED boss Loui Fazakerley says he can turn around the club’s fortunes.

The Wings travel to Dover Athletic tomorrow sitting in the Vanarama National League relegation zone with 24 points from 25 games.

Welling United were defeated 2-1 by Chris Kinnear’s side at Park View Road on Boxing Day and Fazkerley wants his side to come away from the Kent coast with three points in the bag to start the New Year in high spirits.

“We know what to expect as we played them at home seven days ago,” said the Wings boss.

“It will be a tough game but we will be up for it.

“We know a win is only round the corner, the players just have to keep working hard and believing.

“We have got more than enough to move up the table. We just need that first win to give us a kick start.”

Welling United have gone eight games without a win, their last three point haul came on 13 October 2015 when Lincoln City were beaten 2-1 at Park View Road.

Meanwhile, Dover Athletic’s assistant manager Jake Leberl, is delighted with the club’s campaign so far.

The Whites host Welling United sitting in fifth-place in the table on 46 points from 28 games, a couple of points clear of Macclesfield Town.

Dover Athletic finished in the top ten last season and go into the Welling United game on the back of a 3-2 home defeat to Bromley.

Leberl told www.doverathletic.com:  “There are always those who go on about second season syndrome, and if you have a few bad results, well, people will jump on that and start talking about it.

"We've got to be thick-skinned, forget about that loss on Monday and get on with playing football and trying to do what we always aim for - to win games.

“I agree that it's always more difficult in your second season. Teams know you and they are better prepared to play you.

“However, I think we've coped with the challenge extremely well this season and the progress we've made has been absolutely fantastic.

“We have shown so far this season that we are definitely heading in the right direction but we're far from the finished article.

“We've still got work to do and we all know that.”

And Chris Kinnear’s trusted number two is keen to see more improvement.

"We have struggled in a couple of games, but that happens. The important thing is that we focus on the future and forget about the past,” said Leberl.

“There is no point dwelling on what happened against Bromley - that's gone and there is nothing we can do about that result now.

“We've just got to make sure we play as well as we all know we are capable of and get the three points against Welling on Saturday.”
