We're not going to disrespect Grays because we're going to approach the game like we approach every other game, says Welling United boss Loui Fazakerley

WELLING UNITED manager Loui Fazakerley says his side will not be complacent when they travel to Grays Athletic in The FA Cup on Sunday.

The Vanarama National League club travel to Aveley to play Ryman Premier League opposition with a lucrative place in the First Round up for grabs.

The Wings are sitting in a respectable seventeenth-place in the table with 22 points from 18 games – six points above the relegation zone.

Grays Athletic play two league’s lower than the Kent club and go into the game sitting in seventh-place in the table on 27 points from 15 league outings.

“We’re not going to disrespect them. We’re not going to overlook them. We’re going to turn up and approach the game like we approach every other game. We’re going to go there looking to win,” said the Welling United boss.

Getting to the First Round of The FA Cup brings financial benefits to clubs and the Wings will scoop £12,500 in prize money should they get through on Sunday.

Fazakerley said: “Financially it’s big for the club, but also a little cup run always boosts morale around the camp so we’ll be looking to win that game, of course.

“It’s going to be a tough game. We know they’re going to raise their game because they’re the lower opposition playing against higher opposition, so they’ve got motivation to get through to the next round, which is financially big for them as well.

“They’re going to turn up and they’re going to be giving it a good go and we have to respect them but if we play the way I know we can play and we approach the game in a professional manner we’ll win the game.”

Reflecting on their National League campaign to date, Fazakerley is a satisfied manager.

“We’re doing well. I think we’re moving along pretty nicely,” he said.

“We’re sitting where we’d like to be at this stage.  We had a food result last time out against Barrow, a long way to go. It was a good (1-1) draw against a dangerous front line.”
