We need a bit more quality going forward, says Welling United coach Jamie Day
WELLING UNITED coach Jamie Day says his side need to show quality in the final third against fifth-placed Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday.
The Wings are struggling in Mark Goldberg’s first season at the helm at Park View Road, as the club are in the bottom three in the Vanarama National League South table, with a playing record of three wins, three draws and 11 league defeats.
Alan Dowson has guided Hampton & Richmond Borough into the play-off zone, with a record of 10 wins, three draws and five defeats.
The Wings are a couple of points adrift of safety after going down to a late 1-0 defeat away to Hungerford Town in their last outing.
“We were really disappointed with the result on Monday as I thought the team we had out worked their socks off and deserved a point,” said Day.
“We knew it was going to be tough with such a young side and players’ playing with injuries.
“Saturday will be a tough game as Hampton are a good side with a good manager who have started the season very well.
“Hopefully we can get a few players’ back fit but we will need the same attitude as Monday but hopefully a bit more quality going forward to try and get something from the game.”
Welling United have celebrated one victory and one draw and suffered two defeats since Day returned to the club to form a part of Goldberg’s management team.
