Welling United sign former Millwall striker Alfie Pavey

Thursday 15th June 2017

WELLING UNITED manager Jamie Coyle has made a double transfer swoop today.

Striker Alfie Pavey, 21, who was released by Millwall and centre-back Ian Gayle, 24, has arrived from relegated National League side Braintree Town.

Pavey scored 124 goals in 54 games for Maidstone United’s Academy during the 2012-13 season and was snapped up by Millwall in May 2013.

Last season Pavey played for Aldershot Town and Bromley in the Vanarama National League last season whilst out on loan, although he failed to score for Bromley.

“Again, I’m delighted to have signed Alfie,” Coyle told www.wellingunited.com.

“Alfie is a hard-working centre forward who has made 10 appearances for Millwall’s first team at the tender age of 21.

“He made his debut in the Championship against Wolves when he was 19.

“He also has had experience in the League above for Aldershot, Bromley and Barnet.  He is another player that is hungry to succeed and adds more quality to the squad already assembled.”

Gayle, meanwhile, made 16 appearances, scoring twice for Welling United while he was on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge in 2016.

The defender made 22 appearances for Braintree Town last season and has decided to play National League South football for Welling United last season, rather than the Essex outfit.

“Delighted Ian has agreed to sign next year.  I have worked with Ian before when he was in my academy at Dartford and he is another player that has experience playing in the league above.

“He is quick, strong and an aggressive defender who is also a threat in the opposition’s box.”

Dover Athletic, meanwhile, has signed former Maidstone United and Margate central defender Manny Parry, 23, from Braintree Town, where he made 23 appearances. He has signed a one-year contract at Crabble.

Parry joins fellow new arrivals Kane Richards, Mitch Brundle and Jamie Allen at the Vanarama National League club.
