We'll build our foundations around McDonnell, says Goldberg

BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg has enticed Nic McDonnell back to Hayes Lane following the striker's short spell at AFC Wimbledon.

Goldberg, who returned to the Hayes Lane hot-seat earlier this month, is delighted to bring the highly-rated striker back to the club, from a side who will be competing for glory in the Blue Square South next term.

“Nic coming back just shows to everyone involved with the club that we’ve targeted a player who has been so instrumental in our success to date and were so delighted that Nic has decided to rejoin us,” Goldberg told www.bromleyfc.net.

“We will be building the team around the likes of Nic McDonnell, a target man who I believe is not only one of the best players in the Blue Square South but arguably one of the best players in non-league football.”

Mark Corneille and Jerrome Sobers have both committed their futures to the club along with Steve Clark who returns for his second spell at Hayes Lane.

And Goldberg said: "Steve Clark, Mark Corneille and Jerrome Sobers have all been key players during the time I've been involved at this club and just like Nic they are instrumental in any team.

“I've had to prepare and the idea is to build a new squad again from scratch and I want to build the infrastructure with a backbone of players that I know.

“They can bring strength and pace, all in very important positions and I don't think there are any doubts that we are building the right foundations for the future."

Goldberg also feels that the building of the squad for the coming season is going well with more announcements expected in the next few days.

"You'll see from other announcements, hopefully over the next few days, that we've managed to keep the players that we feel are right for how we want to set out our game plan for next season,” he said.

“I feel were pretty much three quarters of the way through the list of players we've been targeting over the last few weeks and considering we've still got a little way to go before pre season I'm really delighted that the squad is shaping up nicely."
