We have an outside chance of making the play-off's, says Walker
THE third of three massive games in the Ryman Premier League tomorrow is at Bourne Park, where sixth-placed Maidstone United welcome fourth placed Tooting & Mitcham United.
During the past fourteen days the Stones have been knocked out of both the FA Cup (to AFC Wimbledon) and FA Carlsberg Trophy (Swindon Supermarine), so joint-boss Alan Walker wants a reaction against the Terrors.
“Looking back over the past two weeks we have gone out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy and obviously that is disappointing,” Walker told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.
“But we have always said that it is our priority to make sure we get enough points to stay in this division.
“Personally, I think the squad we have assembled is capable of achieving more than just avoiding relegation and if we can sustain a challenge and find some consistency we have an outside chance of making the play-off’s.
“But at the moment, we are simply not consistent enough as one week we play very well and then the next, we are disappointing.
“Considering we have virtually a new side I think we have done well so far to reach a good position in the league and get to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.
“Clearly it would have been excellent for the club to reach the first round proper but we came up against a strong side in AFC Wimbledon.”
Roland Edge is suspended for this match, whilst Kevin Watson will play for the reserves against Thamesmead Town tomorrow.
