We could hopefully have a good season with all the problems we've had, says Neil Cugley

Thursday 24th January 2013
FOLKESTONE INVICTA boss Neil Cugley says he is expecting a goal fest against Crawley Down Gatwick at Cheriton Road on Saturday.

The club are presently sitting in thirteenth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table, with 30 points from 21 games and welcome John Maggs’ side who are in fifth-place.

”I know the manager really well, John Maggs, he’s been going longer than me, he has been around a long, long time, always gets a good side together,” said Cugley.

”They’re very attack minded. We had an exciting game down there. I think it will be an end-to-end game. We lost 4-3 down there. They just seem to go at people. It wouldn’t shock me if it’s a goal fest again.

”Crawley Down’s 23 games have seen 81 goals scored so every game they have nearly four goals a game so it should be quite entertaining – you can put money on a 0-0!”

Folkestone Invicta are nine points adrift of the Sussex side and Cugley says he hasn’t ruled out making a charge towards the play-offs.

He said: “We’ve got two games a week for the next five weeks so at the end of that time we should know where we are.

”If we get on a run we could hopefully have a good season with all the problems we’ve had.”

Folkestone Invicta return to training tonight and Cugley revealed it’s been difficult getting his players in for training during the cold snap.

”It’s been difficult, a bit frustrating really,” he said.

”It’s been difficult to do any training together or get the lads together and the pitch has been terrible.

”We will hopefully train tonight and we’ve got five weeks of two games a week and we’ll get on with it now, get on a run, everyone wants to play and get going again.”

When asked about the current situation concerning Margate’s interest in him being the next manager at Hartsdown Park, Cugley insisted the talk has not distracted him at all ahead of Saturday’s game.

Margate yesterday appointed goalkeeper Craig Holloway as caretaker manager and Simon Osborn and Danny Hockton have come in to coach.

He said: “They’ve obviously got a new manager now, someone in charge so I’ll get on with what I’m doing, it’s not a problem.

”I’ve never been unhappy at Folkestone in sixteen years, so I’ll get on with it.

”Nothing really to say really. It’s not in my hands at all is it, so I’ll just get on with what we’re doing.

”We’ve got two home games and get as many points as we can.”

When asked about injuries, Cugley replied, “Roland Edge, we’ve got to look at his injury, apart from that we’re not too bad.”
