We can't wait for the first whistle, says Seager

It’s been a relatively quiet summer for newly promoted Whitstable Town, but manager Marc Seager is hoping to announce at least two new signings shortly.

The Ryman League Division One South newcomers reported back to pre-season training on Saturday, with forty players put through their paces.

“Delighted with the turn-out and the quality on show,” Seager said on the club’s website www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

"With the exception of two or three of last years squad who were unable to make Saturday due to holidays and work, the rest of the lads have put pen to paper.

“It was nice to get back into the routine and the lads responded well to the first session.

“We concentrate on fitness at this early stage then when we start the games come thick and fast.

“There are no make weights in the squad, every last one of them is ready for the task ahead, and we know it’s going to test us but we are gearing up for it at the club.

“The pitch is truly fantastic and would not be out of place a couple of divisions higher, it’s a credit to Joe and Bruce and the long hours they spend on it.”

Seager’s men play five of their seven pre-season games at The Belmont - and Seager, who clinched the Kent League title - and Kent Senior Trophy - during his first full season as a manager, cannot wait.

He said: “Behind the scenes everything is on place ready for the first competitive game, against Thamesmead in the Kent League Charity Cup in less than a months time.

“Like the players, my staff and myself can’t wait for the first whistle.”
