We are looking to retain the Plate, says Herne Bay manager Anthony Deer
The Kent Women’s Plate Final, sponsored by Soccer Elite FA, is taking place on tonight at Sevenoaks Town’s Greatness Park ground (7:45pm).
Both finalists have demonstrated great determination and skill to make it to the final, overcoming several strong outfits to snatch a spot at the coveted final.
The two sides entered the competition in the second round. Herne Bay Ladies were drawn at home to Rusthall and produced an accomplished performance to secure a 3-1 victory.
Bromley Ladies meanwhile travelled to Castle Colts for their first game in the competition. After a gruelling 90 minutes, Bromley stood firm and managed to pinch a 3-2 win after extra time.
Bromley continued to show their grit and determination on the road as they visited Long Lane in the quarter final. Bromley got one over their local rivals with a 3-1 win.
Whilst Herne Bay made the most of home comforts beating Thanet Colts 6-0.
Herne Bay’s scoring prowess continued into the semi-finals with an outstanding 14-1 victory against West Kent. A resounding victory which gives them plenty of momentum coming into the final.
Bromley displayed their fighting spirit to get to the Women’s Plate final, taking Swale Ladies into extra time before sealing a 6-3 victory.
Both sides are relatively new to the women’s football circuit adding an even great sense of achievement to their place in the Kent Women’s Plate final.
Herne Bay’s manager, Anthony Deer revealed how his side are determined to match last season’s success and wants to get underway with a victory in the Plate final.
He told www.thekentfa.com : “This is only Herne Bay Ladies second season. In our inaugural season last term Herne Bay Ladies accomplished a remarkable treble winning the SECWFL Kent Division, the Divisional League Cup and the Kent FA Women’s Plate which, of course, we are looking to retain.”
“In our second season we are again in the hunt for a possible treble of trophies. The club is proud of what they have already achieved and looks forward to the years ahead as the team makes its way in an increasingly popular branch of this ‘beautiful game.’
Whilst the holders look a force to be reckoned with, they’ll certainly face a stiff contest from Bromley Ladies, a team who are enjoying an equally successful inaugural season so far.
Shanna Williams, match and fixture secretary as well as Bromley Ladies FC player, revealed how proud she is of her teammate’s achievements so far.
She told www.thekentfa.com: “Bromley Ladies are currently placed first in Greater London Women’s Football League Division Two South with four games to win the league. We are in the semi-finals of the Russell Cup and now playing for Kent Women’s Plate!”
“This is an amazing start to a newly formed team and I know the players would like to give a special thanks to Steve and Dave as we couldn’t have got this far without their help on and off the field - come on The Ravenettes!”
Judging by their paths into the final, spectators are set to enjoy a competitive game full of spirit and showered with goals.
