We are intent not to settle for a mid-table position, says Herne Bay chairman Trevor Kennett

HERNE BAY chairman Trevor Kennett says he will not settle for midtable in their inagural Ryman League Division One South campaign.

Simon Halsey takes his team to basement side Walton Casuals tomorrow, sitting in fifteenth-place in the table, with six wins and four draws from their seventeen games.

The Surrey outfit are managed by former Bromley midfielder Danny Carroll, who played for the Hayes Lane club for more than one spell back in the George Wakeling era.

Walton Casuals, who were knocked out of The FA Cup by Thamesmead Town earlier on in the season, have won only three of their seventeen league games and occupy the sole relegation place.

Herne Bay’s form has dipped in recent weeks, losing their last five games and the club have brought in two fresh faces to get things back on track.

Striker Aaron Millbank has arrived at Winch’s Field on an one-month loan from League Two side Gillingham.

And attacking midfielder Sam Bewick has signed from Maidstone United.  His previous clubs include Queen’s Park Rangers, Gillingham and Tonbridge Angels.

Halsey told www.hernebayfc.net: “I am delighted that Aaron and Sam are now part of our squad. They are quality players that will give us a much needed boost.”

Halsey, who clinched the Kent League title and reached the semi-finals of The FA Carlsberg Vase last season added: “We are still learning at this level, but I felt that we needed some added quality and experience to help us improve.”

Mr Kennett added: “This shows we are intent not to settle for a mid-table position.  We want to be a successful club and Aaron and Sam’s quality and experience will help us achieve that.”

Meanwhile, former Margate, Maidstone United and Whitstable Town defender Sam Groombridge signed for Kent League title chasers Erith & Belvedere last night.
