Warrilow spends to net target Rook - EXCLUSIVE
Striker Carl Rook, 24, has completed his switch from Horsham to Tonbridge Angels for an “undisclosed fee” today, signing a contract until the end of next season, writes Stephen McCartney.
Angels boss Tommy Warrilow made his third signing - his first for a transfer fee - as he brings the Sittingbourne based striker to the Betterview Longmead Stadium.
Rook made a name for himself at Hastings United, where he was voted player of the year in 2004, before moving to Dover Athletic and then Horsham, where Warrilow was assistant manager.
Warrilow has splashed some of the cash that he’s received for team building, after selling 20-goal striker, Jon Main, 26, to AFC Wimbledon, and full-back, Scott Gooding to full-time Blue Square South outfit, Fisher Athletic.
“He was a target when Jon Main was here,” Warrilow said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“We were relying on Jon to get goals all the time and Carl was a target when I got the job.
“We wanted to make sure the timing was right to get him from Horsham. I’m delighted to get him on board and he’s going to be massive for the club.”
Rook makes his debut tonight against a Billericay Town side, like the Angels, are underperforming near the foot of the Ryman Premier League table.
With both sides on twenty points, Warrilow’s warriors are just TEN points adrift of Kent rivals Ramsgate, currently in third place.
“Another tough game, they’re on a bit of form at the moment, beaten Ramsgate and drawn with Hendon in their last two games,” said the Tonbridge boss.
“They’ve had a change of management (but) there’s no easy games in the league and tonight’s going to be no different.
“We’re only ten points off Ramsate, who are sitting third. The league is so tight, I’ve never known anything like it!
“If you’re bottom, you’re looking at the fourth play-off spot - there’s enough games to play.”
Tonbridge go into tonight’s game full of confidence, having become the first side to take league points off league leaders Chelmsford City at Melbourne Park.
“That’s the first points they’ve dropped on Saturday,” said Warrilow about his side’s “excellent” 2-2 draw on Saturday.
“The main thing was the boys’ gave us a performance after the last two results weren’t good.
“It wasn’t a pretty game as the conditions were horrendous but we dug in and got a good point.”
Scott Kinch (knee), Robbie Kember (dead leg) and Matt Lovell (cracked cheekbone) are extremely doubtful tonight.
